ACCPD News Employee of the 1st Quarter 2010
Chief Joseph H. Lumpkin, Sr., announces Employees of the First Quarter. Officer Katie Miller was the Sworn Employee of the Quarter and Evidence Technician Drena Campbell was the Civilian Employee of the Quarter. On February 1 Officer Miller was dispatched to a residence for a welfare check on an elderly female who lived alone. After making contact, she learned the lady had fallen earlier and injured herself. The lady was sitting in a chair and was unable to get out of the chair. It was estimated she had been immobile for several days. Contact was made with a daughter and, even though she was aware of her mother's physical state, she refused to come out. During the next two days, Officer Miller regularly checked on the woman both on and off duty. During this time, efforts were made to get assistance for her. On February 3, after all attempts for help had proven futile, Officer Miller and another officer went before the Probate Court judge and obtained an order to have the victim removed from the residence and taken to a medical facility. At this time it was discovered she had seriously injured her back and hip in the fall. If Officer Miller had not taken the action she did, this elderly female may very well have died in her own home. She was commended for the care and compassion she showed to one of our senior citizens. The civilian employee was Evidence Technician Drena Campbell who consistently provides stellar service to all internal and external customers. She goes about her duties with a positive, professional attitude. Her spirit is contagious. She seamlessly bridges the gap between the old evidence system and the new system and she provides guidance to others when problems arise. When faced with multiple tasks all at one time, she shines under pressure. Drena works with great attention to detail and treats her day to day activities not as a job but as a commitment to the mission of the ACCPD. |
