Citizen Police Academy program is offered by the Athens-Clarke County Police Department twice a year - once in the fall and once in the spring. It lasts 12 weeks, and consists of one 3-hour class per week from 6:30-9:30 PM. The Winter session meets on Thursday night and the Fall session meets on Tuesday night. There is no tuition for attendees, and dinner is provided during each meeting. Most classes are held at the East Headquarters Precinct on Lexington Road.
The course focuses on giving participants an opportunity to learn about their police department and its mission through classes on each of the agency's units and their responsibilities and capabilities. There are classes on forensics, patrol, K-9, SWAT, hiring and recruiting, and training, among a variety of other topics. The goal is to give residents and visitors the opportunity to learn what their police department does on a daily basis to keep Athens-Clarke County safe.

The 23rd CPA Session begins Thursday, January 28, 2010.
